YOUVE COME ALONG WAY BABY dressing room reveal

Our little dressing room has grown and matured so much in a few short years.
This room serves all our clothing needs including laundry folding, ironing, and every day dressing.

Here she is as a youngster.

And now she has graduated, making both of us very proud.

This is the area that we needed the most, a place to put clean laundry and fold it.

I saw this frame available at the auction I knew I wanted it and knew it would be painted.
The Whitehall Laundry sign is an actual a fabric laundry "BAG".
I purchased the bag from a lady that deals in estates and furniture.

One of the many signs hanging on the walls is also covering the fuse box.
The curtain tie backs & scrolled metal shelf brackets are second hand buys.
The shelf is cut from 2 pine bed rails and is extra deep.

This thick vanity surface was stolen from a large midcentury desk I tore down for parts. We found
this drawers and pull out on the side of the road. I customized and installed them under the surface.

This solid brass urn had a wonderful patina in dark reds and browns when I first got it.
It was handmade in India, sorry India, I had to paint it.

The stacked dresser are perfect in this corner.
Details about their transformation can be found here.

I painted these baskets white using my sprayer.

New baskets whether white or brown are priced very close so think before you buy.
Because spray painting old brown baskets takes a lot of paint and time which will translate
into a good deal of money but it is an option to recycle them.

One problem I still have with the room is an ironing board.

I wanted to get one in a cabinet that hangs on the wall then hinge this full length mirror to it.
Mom and Dad had one in their house and it was great,
but the cost of these wonderful things is high
so I will make due for now until I can find one or figure out how to build one.

More pictures can be seen at OUR HOME TOUR,
and
I have also added some pictures on the BEFORE AND AFTER page

LIFES NEVER DULL georges thoughts

I have been asked so many times...."Whats it like living with "? So I asked to write this post.
Well, I could write a book but instead I will donate a brief chapter.

Moi.....in deep thought

Her mind never stops. I can watch her thinking about a piece for hours/days - what to do with it, how
to approach it, colour choices, embellishments, knobs, spray or handpaint. When all of the pieces of
the puzzle fall into place (in her mind).....shes off like a shot and almost unstoppable until she
completes the task. It is a really fun process to watch and I am always amazed with the results. I often
wish I had that talent to vision artistic results.

Did you know she can paint other things as well?
She approaches every thing as though she is going to keep it. Numerous coats of primer and several
coats of finish paint. All of this after repairs and paint stripping. Talk about patience! And I dont have
that kind of patience. I say to myself "just throw a coat of paint on it and sell it". But no....That is not
*Miss Do It Rights* mode of operation.

Weve been together for 3 and a half years now.....second time for both of us. We made a promise that
life will be easy and fun. It has been that and more.

Ok....so I have a mushy side

I really enjoy meeting s customers and followers. And if I brag a bit....well......Im entitled and
proud. Life with is an adventure in itself.

This is Kasey (s daughter) we are good friends and she thinks I am funny most of the time.
The 3 of us spend some really nice times together.

Heres Kat having a drink of water along side the always present paint brushes. She is the most
amazing animal I have ever met! She has been with for over 10yrs and has helped her thru
some very tough times. I had to stand up to Kats approval when we were dating.

Holly (s one and only sister) and Me again.

These 2 sisters are very different but each share their strengths with the other.

is a lot like her father - very mechanically inclined.
It is interesting to see them talk, share ideas, and work together on something.

I love the fact that can do what she is passionate about and be close by. We are never far apart
and sometimes she asks me for an opinion. I always give it honestly even if I dont agree with her. We
all have different views on what we like or what looks nice to our eyes....dont we? (I have learned
very quickly that interior decorating is not my strong point)

We have a few different interests but we support and respect each others. I can build a house (been
there, done that) but do not have the patience or talent for redoing furniture. I like some sports but
especially hockey and she has little interest. But....she has come to learn and watch some hockey with me.

I hope I have offered an insite into life with , if anything "life is never dull with ".

DIY Plywood Cutting Table

I completed my video on my Plywood Cutting Table! I think I am getting a little better at making videos too. They are getting more precise and to the point with less rambling and less "uhhh....." "and uh..." in it. Also, I think I ended up with a much better quality picture in the video since I rendered it to different specs.

I hope everyone enjoys the video and feel free to comment and ask questions if you have one!

WHITE ON RED distressed chest

A different look was achieved when I used white paint
over red on this vintage dresser.

The color it sported when we came across it was a rusty red.

Carrie at the Passionate Home was showing me some of the sample boards
of chalk paint colors and waxes, and we discussed the different layered looks
of colors that could be used. That got me thinking.

I dont like struggling against the furniture I found
and up to this point wasnt 100% on the right direction for this rusty piece.

I have done red over black before very successfully
but what color could I do over red and be just as happy with?

I really enjoy how choosing old white worked with this piece.
The lightness of the white changes the color of the rust to a richer burgundy look.

I had a customer come to pick up another dresser and
when she saw this one almost bought it as well.

Some vintage heart shaped ring pulls painted in a two tone cream
and white to the drawers finished it off perfectly.

SHES A PRETTY SECRETARY pink secretary desk

Shes a looker alright!

The hardware is ANTIQUE with protectors on the inside of the drawers.
A metal cap fits over the post and nut to protect the drawer contents.

But I hope you didnt think I found her this way, you know me better then that.

I built the upper portion for this simple maple secretary using two discarded cabinet doors,
and some lumber from a kitchen table I recent stole the legs from.
It is secured with metal rods on the back side and can be unscrewed to separate.

She has a larger then average pull down at 16" deep,
thats why I chose this piece to work with.

The pink is a blend of pure white and emperors silk ASCP and waxed with minwax natural.
Everything displays great against the soft pink,
and its a fun color to have peeking through the glass doors.
